Here is a sample of songs that are part of a musical based on a diary and letters written by Swedish emigrants to the United States. It’s about a couple who met at a dance at Folkets Park somewhere in Sweden in the early 1920s. How they became a couple and emigrated by boat via Gothenburg in 1927. It's about love, yearning for a better life “over there,” the difficult farewell, meeting all the new as they arrived, the children born in the new country, homesickness and difficulties during the Great Depression. This is the result of the Gothenburg and Chicago sister city partnership. It was created by the Emigrants' House in Gothenburg, the group Wavemakers in Gothenburg and Charles Unger Experience in Chicago / San Francisco. Musically is about “Swedish folk tone meeting American jazz and blues. The musical seeks to create a musical bridge between Sweden and the United States.
